Barcelona in Brief

  Barcelona abounds with history, culture and art. Spains second largest city, it is situated in the Cataluna region with the Catalan government based here. Cataluna has its own unique culture and a language separate from Spanish. Barcelona itself is an elegant city and due to its location on the Mediterranean coast is a major port and industrial centre. Architecture in the city is magnificent with the oldest historical buildings found in the Gothic Quarter, most importantly the 13th century cathedral. Famous for being the home of Picasso, it also features work by Antonio Gaudi, the modernist architect. The seafront has undergone recent development and is a popular place for recreation and leisure and there are plans in the future for a marine wildlife park.

Main attractions
The Gothic Quarter is the hub of the city and most popular attraction for tourists. It embraces museums and monuments, art galleries and fascinating little boutiques next to trendy cafes and restaurants located in the narrow cobbled streets and medieval buildings.
